It’s a rainy afternoon here in Maine, and that usually puts everyone in a funk in my household. Kenna is marathon napping, and I’m feeling far less motivated than usual. Jonathan is working from home, and that means I can sew while he’s not on the phone or in a meeting (we share a room for his and my office).
Jonathan wanted me to make him some patchwork shorts out of the scraps I have left over from making Kenna some DIY cloth diaper covers. However, upon digging into my scrap stash, I discovered that nothing really went together. I told my husband they would either be the ugliest shorts on the planet, or I’d make a quilt out of them.
The Scrap Quilt Design
I decided to make a quilt, and it’ll just be the ugliest quilt on the planet.
I have 3.5″ squares, and 3.5″ x 6.5″ rectangles that will be put together like this:
I was able to sew up quite a few strips, after spending the previous day cutting all of the pieces. As you can see, it really will be the ugliest quilt ever.
As I make progress on it and it comes together, I’ll amend this post and show you all. I don’t know what I’m going to back it with yet, but I do know that I don’t want to use polyester fill again. I’m thinking some plain t-shirt material so that it stays thin and light. I guess we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
Finished the quilt top. My guess is that it’s going to sit around until I have the money to buy backing for it. It really is the ugliest quilt ever! But it’s cute in a way, especially because it matches some of her diapers.
Until next time,
